Montebuono is a small village with a population of about 1,000, located in the heart of the Sabine area, 325 metres above sea level and some 65 kilometres from Rome. The landscape is varied, ranging from the Cimini Mountains to the Soratte ridge and the Sabine Hills: the 360 degree horizon is exceptionally beautiful under the pink skies of a summer sunset. This region is predominantly hilly, but the village is protected to the north by Monte San Benedetto, resulting in a mild climate all year round (hence the name Montebuono). The village itself has many interesting and charming features: arches large and small, galleries and stairways leading to the houses, almost all of them external to save space, and doors made of wood from the ancient wineries; all combine to give an authentic feeling of bygone days.
