The starting point of the itinerary is Tarquinia's central Piazza Matteotti and includes a visit of the town's historic centre, churches, donjons and Etruscan Museum. You then leave the town by bike from Porta Tarquinia and after 3.5 km you reach the Etruscan necropolis of Monterozzi. After this you come to the pine forest near the beach where you can find some campsites and the Gravisca archaeological area. The Saltworks, which are now in disuse and nature reserve can be found at a distance of 8 km from the town centre. The beach is just a stone's throw away. If you use your binoculars to take a closer look, it's fairly easy to spot flamingos, spoonbills, herons and ducks. A kilometre further on you come across the nineteenth-century hamlet set among pine trees with the forest ranger station, old houses, a picnic area and a church. After asking the forest rangers for permission, you can cross over the fence and take a short path to reach the bird watching observatories. The alternative option is to walk along the beach, staying close to the fence. The route back is the same as the route followed to get there.
