Olive Oil Museum Castelnuovo di Farfa

Published on:  2018-03-11 09:34:00

This interesting museum is in the old town of Castelnuovo di Farfa, in the heart of the Oil Route of Sabina, and intended to celebrate one of the finest varieties of olive oil in Italy. Set up in Palazzo Perelli (16th century), the museum celebrates oil with all the most significant materials and symbolism, traditional and contemporary. The items regarding olive oil production are on display in the rooms: 16th century jars, the 18th century mill, and old olive presses ranging from the 16th to the 20th centuries, the ancient ovens. Visitors start their tour inside the museum, and then go up to the top of the centre of Castelnuovo di Farfa and into the country to the little rural church of San Donato (9th century). Inside, architecture and music celebrate olive oil in Mediterranean spirituality. The late medieval archaeological site of San Donato, near the Farfa River, is part of the museum route.
