Saint Quirico and Giulitta Abbey

The enchanted santi Quirico e Giulitta Abbey rises near the town of Micigliano, close to the via Salaria. Recently restored, the complex was founded by the Benedictines in the first half of the tenth century. Burned by the Normans around the mid twelfth century, it was rebuilt by the abbot Sinibaldo and consecrated by Bishop Dodone of Rieti in 1179. The structure still features the age-old fortified arrangement: the entire complex is ringed by walls, and the imposing campanile was also used as a lookout tower. The town of Micigliano is also worth visiting; the Medieval village has maintained its urban planning arrangement almost unaltered, with the bridge house enclosing the parish church dedicated to St. Blaise. In town, you can also admire the fascinating Museo delle Arti e Tradizioni Popolari.
