Considered one of the most significant examples of court houses, Palazzo De Angelis in Altamura is located near Porta Bari, where for centuries it has housed stories of family gifts. The palace was built at the beginning of the sixteenth century, just as the Farnese coat of arms and the coat of arms of the De Angelis family suggest, but the building has undergone considerable changes over the course of time. The ground floor and the noble floor can be attributed to the original nucleus, the entrance portal with relief columns and the tympanum bearing the De Angelis coat of arms. The construction of the characteristic internal loggia dates back to the same period, consisting of stone columns on which rest small cross vaults, which gave access to the majestic hall. Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the elevations on the north side of Piazza Unità d'Italia were modified, including the entrance portal to the city, and the second floor was completed which gave the building the appearance it preserves today.
