Palazzo Granafei

In the historic center of Gallipoli, along Via De Pace rises Palazzo Granafei, so called from the name of the owners of the late nineteenth century. Initially, in fact, the building belonged to the Spanish family of Vasques D'Acugna, who arrived in the city in the XVI century. A large portal of Catalan-Durazzesco memory and Renaissance windows characterize the façade of the building which is most distinguished by an engraving, dated to 1625 in Spanish by Don Francesco D'Acugna with a dedication for Filippo IV of Spain. To embellish the complex is the presence of an oil mill, in the hypogeum of the building, with presses and millstones of the seventeenth century currently visitable.
