An important center of culture during the Gonzaga government, the Ducal Palace of Alessano is an interesting fortified building with elegant decorations that soften its appearance. The building has undergone numerous interventions over the centuries especially in the rooms on the ground floor. It retains its primitive structure, instead, in the central part of the noble floor and in the wide and comfortable staircases adjacent to it. The refined Renaissance façade is closed to the view by a building set perpendicularly to the lateral extension of the building, built in the last decade of the 1700s by the feudal lord of the time Nicolò Ayerbo d'Aragona, as suggested by the writing that appears on a window that reads : 'The house (Ayerbo of Aragon) does not tolerate evil loves peace punishes crimes keeps the laws in force honors the honest. In the year of the Lord 1794.
