The former Carmelite Monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi in Ostuni hosts the collection of the Museum of Preclassic Civilizations of the Southern Murgia, inaugurated in 1989. The visit to the museum, annexed to the Church of San Vito Martire, allows you to admire the casts of the burials called Ostuni 1, belonging to a woman of the Paleolithic, Ostuni 2 and Ostuni 3 with finds dating back to 24,000-10000 years ago. One of the most important rooms contains the skeleton of a woman who died about 20 years old while she had a fetus in her womb, lived about 25,000 years ago and found in the cave of Santa Maria di Agnano. The Agnano Natural Archaeological Park is also open during the summer season, with the possibility of guided tours. Also recommended is a visit to a suggestive valley at the romantic Sanctuary of San Biagio in Rialbo, set in the rocky wall with a picturesque facade and remains of 12th-century Byzantine frescoes.
