The Diocesan Museum named after Monsignor Aurelio Marena is located in Bitonto, inside the former Seminary in via Vescovado and holds an important historical and artistic heritage, coming from the oldest churches in the city. It was Bishop Marena who promoted the foundation to preserve the precious artistic artefacts, which amounted to around 1800 pieces dating from the twelfth and twentieth centuries. The museum itinerary is divided into several sections, including the important art gallery, the treasure of the silvers, the sculptures and the Romanesque lapidary. In the Sala dei Vescovi there are some paintings of local scope such as the "Flagellation" by Giuseppe della Porta (1693-1749). In the Romanesque lapidary, of great interest are the pluteus inlaid and the capital with racemes of Gualtiero from Foggia. Finally, among the most precious finds is the wooden icon of the Virgin Odegitria built between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
