The National Archaeological Museum "Giuseppe Andreassi" is located outside the walls of the ancient Gnathia, in the area of the vast Messapic necropolis. Not far from the modern town of Egnazia, a hamlet of Fasano, the structure was renovated and inaugurated on 25 July 2013 and includes ten rooms in which are exhibited finds from the adjoining archaeological excavations, among the most important in the region. The rich exhibition itinerary is an ideal journey through the 30 centuries of history of the important settlement of the Bronze Age, later inhabited by the Messapians, which became a Roman city and episcopal seat in the Late Antiquity. The museum is dedicated to Giuseppe Andreassi, director until 1985 and houses an office of the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Puglia, which oversees the vast excavation area, the restoration laboratory, the technical office and the catalog office , the library and the educational service.
