The former Monastery of Santa Croce in the heart of Bisceglie houses the archaeological civic museum «F. Saverio Majellaro ». Established in 1973, it collects artifacts discovered during excavations in the surrounding area, in particular at the Santa Croce cave and the village of Cave Mastrodonato. The exhibition itinerary is divided into three sections, covering a time span ranging from Prehistory to the Romanesque period. Among the most interesting finds we can admire different examples in engraved and painted ceramic from the ancient and middle Neolithic. From the middle Paleolithic are exposed points and scrapers, while at the upper Paleolithic date flint tools, chisels and scrapers. There is also a fossil mat dating back to 7,500 years ago and a cinerary urn containing the ashes of two freedmen married in the 1st century AD, in white marble. Annexed to the museum are the Municipal Library and the Historical Archive.
