Almost a region in the region, the Gargano National Park covers an area of more than 120,000 hectares, hosting countless habitats. Here there are various protected areas including the Tremiti Islands Marine Reserve, unique in its kind for the extraordinary beauty of the seabed and natural caves. In the hinterland of the Gargano promontory, the last testimony of the Umbra Forest vanishes, a very widespread habitat already in prehistoric times. There are many possibilities to explore the park on foot or by bike thanks to the activities of the visitor centers, the managing bodies and the municipalities, including sports, naturalistic, eno-gastronomic, historical-artistic and religious itineraries and excursions. Extended in the territories of 18 municipalities, the park boasts many tourist attraction centers, such as the sites of San Giovanni Rotondo and San Marco in Lamis, the Swabian castle of Monte Sant'Angelo, the manor of Manfredonia, and the coastal towns of Peschici and Vieste.
