The current Corsini palace represents the fruit of a complex transformation activity carried out between 1736 and 1753 by Ferdinando Fuga. The architect created the structure in several phases: first he restored and enlarged the 16th century Palazzo Riario alla Lungara and only between 1744 and 1746, the northern arm, the so-called "new arm" that houses the Library. Finally, between 1748 and 1751, the two buildings were joined, and the spectacular main staircase was built. On the first floor are the large hall of solemn meetings, and the Corsiniana Library opened to the public in 1754.
