  Kosher Life

The Ghetto of Casale Monferrato, here are enclosed several jewels, we start from the Synagogue, built at the end of 1500 and which is an example of Piedmontese Baroque, was later expanded thanks to the development of the community and in the Napoleonic period, despite the restrictions, continued to be embellished with works of art, for example, Venetian mosaics, created around the middle of '800, have made the floor of the Synagogue an exceptional work of art; and then again, in the basement of what was once the oven of the azime, is kept the Museum of Enlightenment, which collects valuable channukka lamps made by artists such as fine Emanuele Luzzati. The boundaries of the ghetto are still well recognizable between Via Balbo, Via Roma and Piazza San Francesco and then, in Via Alessandria you can still see the hook used to close the door of the ghetto and on the hinges of this there is still an inscription that recalls this evening closure
