On March 20, the Jewish Museum of Venice, will open a very special exhibition: a room dedicated to the Manga of Jewish subject designed by Thomas Lay. La bellezza del rigore is a monographic exhibition of paintings by the artist Thomas Lay, the only western mangaka, a pupil and first assistant of Yumiko Igarashi, the famous author of Candy Candy. The collection includes 25 paintings representing typical images of Jewish iconography through the style and technique of manga art. Manga, for about forty years, have played a key role in spreading the Japanese spirit and culture in the West, and especially in Italy, where they are very popular and have inspired many local artists. In Lay's work, for the first time, Jewish culture, rooted in Italy for thousands of years, is expressed through the aesthetics and narrative style of authentic Japanese art.
