  Notes of art in Lombardy

On the Piazza del Comune and above its monuments stands the Torrazzo: with its 111 meters of height is the highest bell tower in Italy, symbol par excellence of the city. Built in several phases from the early thirteenth century until about 1305, it originates from the articulation of a massive Romanesque structure typical of the city towers on which the octagonal garland is grafted with its slender cusp giving the tower an ascending rhythm and characters Gothic. On the side towards the square stands the great astronomical clock, whose mechanism dating back to 1583 is visible inside. The climb to the Torrazzo starts from the door of Paradise and proceeds for 487 steps until you reach the summit from which you can appreciate a magnificent view of the city.
