  Notes of art in Lombardy

The tall and imposing tower that today constitutes the most conspicuous and significant fortified presence of Castelleone would be the only leftover left of the castle built on site by the Cremonese in medieval times, called Castel Manfredi. Destroyed by Federico Barbarossa in 1186, the fortified village was rebuilt two years later with the name of Castel Leone incorporating the ancient tower spared from ruin. Connected to the walls of the village, the Isso tower was guarding one of the two entrance gates. Of the ancient defense walls there are few remains incorporated in other buildings but which have left their memory in the path of the streets that now surround the ancient center.
