  Notes of art in Lombardy

The elegant Loggia dei Militi stands on the western side of Piazza del Comune and is the best example of the city's civil Gothic architecture. Built in 1292, the building was intended for meetings of the Commander militia and in the facade bears the foundation stone with the Gonfalone del comune, flanked by four lions symbols of the city gates. Entirely in brick, on the ground floor it opens into a slender portico with pointed arches, above which three large three-light windows finely decorated like the arches below, accentuate the verticalism of the construction that ends with a crowning of merlons.
