  Notes of art in Lombardy

The Cathedral is the most important monument of the city, for its architectural value and historical importance. Located in the square of the same name, in the center of Crema and surrounded by ancient buildings, it is the heart of the city. Dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, it was built between 1284 and 1341 on the former cathedral destroyed by Federico Barbarossa in 1160. Its imposing brickwork, in Gothic-Lombard style, shows a majestic wind facade characterized by numerous decorative elements that accentuate it. the pictorial value. Inside it preserves the remains of the original Romanesque church and collects numerous documents from the Cremasca history. The best known is the miraculous 13th-century wooden Crucifix.
