  Notes of art in Lombardy

The monumental Piazza Garibaldi, historical center and scenographic space of the city, is known, as well as for its important dimensions, for the so-called "plank", the bright paved marble paving from which the square takes its name. Here the weekly market is held and all the main outdoor events are hosted, starting from the traditional San Carlo Fair held in November. Created at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the square takes on its current appearance at the end of the nineteenth century. Most of the buildings facing it date back to this period, the most important being the neo-gothic Town Hall designed by architect Giacomo Misuraca, which dominates the great basin to the west.
