  Notes of art in Lombardy

The Church of S. Bassano is the most important monument of Pizzighettone. A complex work is the fruit of a long evolutionary process, begun in the twelfth century, continued in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and completed in the following centuries, where the different eras and the various interventions, have left their mark. The beautiful two-sloped brick façade, refined by the elegant fifteenth-century rose window, and the apse decorated by the blind crowning gallery, are evidence of the Romanesque period. Inside the counter-façade stands the large fresco representing the Crucifixion by Bernardino Campi which also creates the twenty-two medallions painted with the figures of the prophets in the central nave.
