  Notes of art in Lombardy

Small but precious, it is one of the most significant churches in Cremona due to its architecture and rich decorative heritage. Built halfway through the thirteenth century downstream of the natural hill on which the city of Cremona was originally founded, along the ancient Via Gonzaga, the current eleventh-february street, which connected the city center with Porta Mosa, was dedicated to St. Clement. Rebuilt during the fifteenth century and dedicated to Santa Maria Maddalena for the transfer of a venerated image of the saint to the church, it appears in a transitional style between the Gothic and the Renaissance and inside it preserves valuable fifteenth-century paintings. The twentieth century restorations have partially recovered the original features of the temple, altered by heavy seventeenth-century interventions.
