  Notes of art in Lombardy

Founded in 1064, near the Po, which with its waters lapped the opposite square on which overlooked the church, San Pietro has been rebuilt several times to take on the current appearance of the sixteenth century fruit of the intervention of the Cremonese architect Francesco Dattaro. Inside, the sumptuous decoration that completely covers the surfaces with frescoes and stuccos, is an important document of Cremonese mannerism. Adjacent to the church is the ancient monastery, now used for parish functions, with the cloister, work of 1509 by Cristoforo Solari, and the adjoining monastic refectory where the great fresco of Bernardino Gatti (1552) is preserved, depicting the multiplication of the loaves.
