The Mitterberg fort is a strong Austro-Hungarian of the First World War. The fort belongs to the great system of Austrian fortifications on the Italian border. The fort was erected in the years 1885-1889, at an altitude of 1575 meters, and together with the Heideck Fort bars access to the Sesto Valley to the Italian troops that could access the Austro-Hungarian Empire from the Monte Croce di Comelico Pass. The fort is a large structure, arranged on three levels, armored with granite blocks, defended by several fixed artillery posts and frontal defensive vault towards the Monte Croce di Comelico pass.
