Before this institution the artists referred to the ancient University of Painters, Miners and Embroiderers.The Principles of the Accademia di San Luca were eminent artistic personalities elected by the academic body, among them Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Despite all this, many important artists remained outside this institution and were never admitted to the circuit of the academy Over the years, for this reason, schools of artists alternated with the academy were born in Rome, one of the most famous was the Bamboccianti School. The Accademia di San Luca is still active, according to the statute, each member artist is required to donate one of his works to the institution to perpetuate his own memory to posterity.
