The name of Tor Marancia derives from the Latin Praedium Amaranthianus, that is the bottom of Amaranthus, a freedman of the Numisii Proculi family of the second century after Christ . The original tower, now missing, was a short distance from the Ardeatina. The present one, which is located on the Homonymous road is, in fact, the Tower of St. Thomas, a watchtower of the 13th century that only in more recent times has assumed the name of Torre Marancia [3]. On Via delle Sette Chiese there is the Casale of Tor Marancia, in the property of the Horti Flavian.
