In 1501 Cardinal Carafa placed here a statue of Menelaus supporting the body of Patroclus, already poorly tanned.  The Romans made it one of the « talking statues » of the city where they affixed their satirical essays.  They called it Pasquino by a tailor equipped with a satirical vein, from which the « pasquinades » to say verbal attacks on the politics or the administration of the city.
