Piazza dell’ Oro, between via Giulia and via Acciaioli, takes its name from the homonymous gold family present in Rome until the end of the seventeenth century. Recent studies put in this small square the place where in antiquity was the « Tarentum », or the « Sanctuary of the Dite (Pluto, God of the Underworld) and Proserpa », whose underground altar was unburied at the time of some sacred ceremonies.
