  Streets of Rome

The name is easy to understand that derives from the fountain in the shape of a ship located in front of the church of Santa Maria in Domnica. According to a legend, the marble ship was found near the Colosseum and would be a former vow from the nearby Castra Peregrina, by sailors who escaped a shipwreck, in honor of the goddess Isis, protector of mariners. However, the present sculpture was created in 1519 by Andrea Sansovino, commissioned by Pope Leo the Tenth, and transformed into a fountain in 1931. But probably already in previously there was here a sculpture in the shape of a spacecraft, as described by some historians, and you can therefore believe the legend of the sailors.
