  Streets of Rome

The name might have double origin. The first because the mound where the square rises was formed in the imperial era with materials of carryover from the excavations of two honorary columns erected for the emperor Antoninus Pius and for Marcus Aurelius. Hence the name Mons Acceptorius that the area had in the Middle Ages. The second derives the name from the fact that the people gathered here before participating in the rallies (Mons Citatorius) and before the hundred were called to become part of the Septa (Mons Septorum).
