  Streets of Rome

It connects Via dei Coronari to Via del Panico and takes its name from the « posterula » Domitia, a secondary gate of the Aurelian walls that was on the extension of the road along the banks of the Tiber, near the Apollo Theatre. The « posterula » Domitia constituted the landing of the boats that carried building materials for the buildings of the Campo Marzio and was formed by a platform in tuff that rested on stilts. The term « David » derives from the presence, on the opposite bank of the Tiber, of the horti of Domitia, daughter of the consul Lucius Domizius Ahenobarbus, cousin of the emperor Claudius and aunt paternal of Lucius Domizius Ahenobarbus, or Nero.
