  Famous people of Rome

The Fontana sisters, with their atelier, were the first to give a lively impulse to Made in Italy, thus making Italian style famous throughout the world, in 1943 . In 1938 in Traversetolo, a town in the province of Parma, the three sisters Zoe , Micol and Giovanna begin with the sartorial craft following the family tradition, then decide to move to Rome.In the second world war, they founded a maison, initially specialized in high fashion clothes.Their first important customer is Gioia Marconi, daughter of Guglielmo Marconi. In 1943 , the workshop was moved to a three-storey building in Via Liguria. The end of the war decreed the beginning of the real success for the three sisters. Rome experienced the fortunate season of neo-realism and Cinecittà, which involves the massive presence of American directors and stars, and in 1948 the famous Hollywood actress Mirna Loy bought the complete wardrobe for the film « The case of Lady Brook » from the Fountains. In 1949 they are required by the American actress Linda Christian to have her wedding dress made, on the occasion of her wedding in Rome with the actor Tyrone Power, mother and father of Romina respectively. It is the consecration of a celebrity destined to last for twenty years. Even Maria Pia di Savoia, on the occasion of her marriage, will dress up in the fountains. The three designers dress with their creations various actresses including Gina Lollobrigida, Sofia Loren, Liz Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Kennedy Onassis, Joan Collins, Ursula Andress, Soraya and Ava Gardner. They are the costume designers of Anita Ekberg in the film La dolce vita and Alitalia flight attendants. Some creations are exhibited at the Metropolitan, at the Guggenheim in New York and at the Louvre in Paris.
