  Famous people of Rome

In 1974 he won his first 7 professional tournaments, after two successes on the cement (one of them beating Arthur Ashe in the final) but he is in Rome who consecrates his talent. In fact, he won the Italian internationals on the beaten Earth field of the Foro Italico, defeating in three sets Ilie Năstase. Two weeks after the success of Rome he repeats on the beaten ground winning his first Slam at the French Open, beating Manuel Oranes in the final with a score of 2 – 6, 6 – 7, 6 – 0, 6 – 1, 6 – 1. This success makes him the youngest winner of the history of Roland Garros (record that will be improved by Mats Wilander in 1982 and then by Michael Chang in 1989). He takes part in the only Australian Open of his career, arriving in the third round. Borg has always said he was deeply connected to Rome.
