  Famous people of Rome

He was a German born in Rome, Heinrich Drèssel, archaeologist, numismatic and epigrapher to make an important discovery. Working on the numerous small inscriptions on the shards from Monte Testaccio, he discovered that most of the ànfore extracted from Monte Testaccio came from the Bètica province in Hispania and had been used for the transport of olive oil. On the basis of the numerous data obtained during the investigations and excavations, he created a table of Amphorae by typology, grouped by their form. This table forms the basis for the classification still used by archaeologists.
