An ancient legend tells that in 1583 a boy is seriously ill, Monsignor Filippo Neri arrives at the bedside of the deceased can not help but pray, at that point the young man resumes to confess. Paul was one of the saint's favourite children, one of the sons of the Oratorio del Divino Amore di San Filippo Neri. A man with an immense heart, a learned theologian, gave his life to the young people who arrived in Rome on a pilgrimage from his native Florence; they are the lost boys of Trastèvere and the alleys around Campo de ' Fiori that affect his soul: to save them is his mission. In 1575 Gregory the thirteenth proclaims the new congregation: it is the birth of the Oratorio in the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella.
