Michelangelo is the artist par excellence, the ideal Man of the Italian Renaissance. Sculptor, painter, architect and poet, already in its time is considered one of the greatest genes in the history of mankind. No one, before or after him, has reached creative levels of this magnitude: the David, the Pietà, the cycle of frescoes in the Sistine Chapel are works that will never be matched. Of wealthy family born at the turn of two centuries, in the last fifteenth century, in a village near Arezzo for the work needs of the father; A nurse breeds him in Settignano, a village of stonecutters, and as he himself likes to remember, he is nourished with milk and marble powder, thus learning the art of sculpture. The Pietà is from 1497, it is the first masterpiece of the then little more than twenty years old Michelangelo, considered one of the greatest works of art that the West has ever produced. It is also the only work he has signed, on the shoulder strap that holds the mantle of the Virgin.
