Pseudonym of Alberto Pincherle, was born in Via Sgambati on November 28, 1907. He was a writer, journalist, essayist, playwright, travel reporter and Italian film critic. Considered one of the most important novelists of the twentieth century, he explored in his works the themes of modern sexuality, social alienation and existentialism. He ascended the limelight in 1929 with the novel The indifferent and published in his long career more than thirty novels. The central themes of the work of Moravia are the moral dryness, the hypocrisy of contemporary life and the substantial inability of men to achieve happiness. His writing is renowned for its simple and austere style, characterized by the use of a common vocabulary embedded in an elegant and elaborate syntax.
