  Rome in the Movies

«Umberto D» is a film of 1952, written and scripted by Cesare Zavattini, and directed by Vittorio De Sica. Beautiful scenes in black and white set and turn to the square of the roundabout, with the most famous temple in the world, the Pantheon, from the background. The film, despite being considered by a good part of the critics one of the best cinematographic works of De Sica and one of the masterpieces of the Neorealism, was, at the level of the public, one of the least understood; when he came out in the cinemas, he met a few obstacles: as with the previous bicycle thieves, there were those who complained about the fact that you were shown reality with dramatic realism. The film is a tribute of the director to the father, Umberto De Sica, with which it had a very strong relationship.
